March 8, 2002 is the date Dan and Stacie Van Watermulen give for buying the avocado-covered hilltop that became Vista Del Mar Ranch, 8567 Happy Camp Road. Main barn stalls are 12×12 with 12×24 runs at $895 a month, mare motel stalls 16×24 and partly covered at $650, and pasture board $480, each with daily cleaning and three flakes of alfalfa or Bermuda. Two lit arenas with automatic watering, a 50-foot round pen, six turnouts, two pastures over an acre and a private tack room per horse complete a property whose gate opens onto Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park and 17.5 miles of trails. Stacie, a co-owner, runs Vista Del Mar Performance Horses here in Quarter Horse events; training is $545 a month and lessons $60 an hour.
