About Our Equine Operations
Veterinary work has been sold from West 7th Street in Columbia since 1947, to small animals and livestock alike. The large-animal side has a haul-in facility fitted with equine stocks, a cattle chute and working pens, so horses can come to the hospital; three mobile emergency vehicles answer urgent calls for existing clients. Digital Coggins testing for equine infectious anaemia is run at the facility, and an in-house laboratory handles blood counts, serum profiles, urinalysis and faecal work without sending samples away. Lameness cases are worked up with nerve or joint blocks and, where needed, arthroscopy or examination of synovial fluid. Of pre-purchase exams the practice writes that one is not designed to tell clients whether to buy a particular horse. Doors open at 7.30am, six days a week.
