About Our Equine Operations
Sample testing for Minnesota animal owners runs through 1333 Gortner Avenue in St Paul, where the University of Minnesota’s diagnostic laboratory is accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians and says it is “capable of testing 500-750 samples/day with same day results for many of the tests”. Work is divided across laboratory sections including bacteriology/mycology, molecular diagnostics, serology, virology, parasitology, histology, immunohistochemistry and necropsy. The test catalogue can be filtered by species, equine among them. Horse owners are not the direct customer: the lab states that “animal owners generally use VDL services through their veterinarians” and that submitting through a licensed veterinarian “increases quality and integrity of the submission”. A $10 accession fee applies to all submissions. Reception is open Monday to Friday, 7.45am to 4.30pm.
