About Our Equine Operations
Four riders on borrowed horses made up the first programme in 1981, started by Dr Peter Bosomworth with local horse people. The charity now works from the John A. and Virginia Creech Therapeutic Riding Center inside the Kentucky Horse Park, more than 50,000 square feet under one roof holding an indoor arena, stalls, wash racks and a three-classroom education building, with 40 acres outside, two ADA mounting platforms and a SureHands lift for wheelchair users. PATH International accredited it in 1987 and made it a Premier Accredited Center in 1998; it also holds Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance accreditation. Therapeutic riding and groundwork are taught by PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors in four to eight week blocks at $40 per half-hour lesson, and separate eight-week non-mounted courses run for veterans and serving military.
