About Our Equine Operations
Senior horses are the entire caseload at this Cave Creek sanctuary, which calls itself the only facility in Maricopa County serving them exclusively; most arrive carrying a chronic medical condition that needs ongoing management. Jim Gath began the place as a boarding barn before converting it to a sanctuary, and the 501(c)(3) added Human to its name in 2018. Veterinary care has come through Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center for more than 15 years, and equine practitioner Dr. Anastasia Keyser sits on the board. Gates at 27115 N. 45th Street open to visitors from 7:30 to 11 a.m., 365 days a year, after a signed waiver and a word with a ranch manager; treats go into bins rather than hands, and leashed dogs are welcome. Intake and the waiting list are both closed.
