About Our Equine Operations
This Old Horse is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) founded in 2012, running its main campus, Wishbone Ranch, on Coates Boulevard in Hastings, and a second Dakota County property, Lemieux Farm, in Inver Grove Heights. The organisation takes in horses that are unrideable, aging or otherwise no longer able to work, then sorts them across four tracks: rescue and rehabilitation, retraining into new roles, adoption or rehoming through its Placement Team, and, for horses that will not be placed, permanent sanctuary through end of life. Adoptable horses are listed on what it calls an ever-changing roster spanning many breeds, ages and training levels. Roughly 3,000 volunteers support the operation, which has no paid administrative staff.
