Shawna Anderson began working with Thoroughbred racehorses at 15 and later earned a New York State racehorse trainer’s licence before opening Southern Dutchess Equestrian Center on Robinson Lane in Wappingers Falls. The farm’s 20-stall shed-row barn holds 12-by-12 stalls alongside a 65-by-126 indoor ring and a 150-by-150 outdoor ring, both finished in a rubber-and-sand mix, plus a heated tack room with a refrigerator. Full board costs $700 a month and includes Blue Seal feed, blanket and boot changes at turnout, and daily stall cleaning; a $390 rough-board option offers shed access and twice-daily feeding without the same level of service, and layup boarding is available with therapeutic stall matting and hand-walking. Beyond boarding, the centre offers lessons, training, summer camp, parties, and horse sales and leasing.
