Beginners at Brent and Shannon Rooney’s Piedmont farm start on a $500 introductory month of eight hour-long lessons, split between horsemanship and riding; after that a 30-minute private lesson costs $50 on a client-owned horse or $60 on one from the programme, with fifteen minutes either side for horse care. Board at 5408 Edmond Road NE runs $450 a month on pasture, $700 for a main-barn or open-faced stall and $725 in the show barn, with grain twice a day and water buckets topped up through the day. Hunter, jumper and equitation coaching on the property is delivered by Rebecca Dalke and Lindsay Dawkins, the trainers of Addington Farm, an independent operation.
