About Our Equine Operations
Set on roughly 700 acres in Kennett Square, New Bolton Center is the large-animal hospital of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine and logs more than 6,300 in-hospital patient visits a year. Horses are seen through 24-hour emergency and intensive care, surgery for orthopaedic and soft-tissue cases, sports medicine, internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, cardiology and diagnostic imaging, with a neonatal intensive care unit for foals and pregnant mares. Reproductive services, including breeding soundness evaluation, are based at the on-site Hofmann Center. Beyond the hospital, its Field Service team travels to area farms for ambulatory and preventive care, covering more than 182,000 miles and over 22,400 patients in a recent year.
