About Our Equine Operations
Earl Denu came from a family of leather craftsmen who left the trade for an Oklahoma farm around 1912; in 1926 he opened National Saddlery at 1307 S. Agnew, and he and his wife Elsie ran it until 1980. Master saddlemaker and artist John Rule held it for the next 28 years, and since 2008 the shop has belonged to its employee-owners, who moved to 1320 South Agnew in 2022. It bills itself as Oklahoma’s oldest working saddlery and the sole survivor of seven saddle shops that once traded in what is now Historic Stockyards City. The shop builds custom saddles and stocks tack, fresh ropes from Cactus, Classic, Lone Star and Rattler, Hyer boots, rodeo gear and western apparel.
