About Our Equine Operations
MTRA started in 1983 at Peg Wallace’s farm as an unpaid volunteer effort and took 501(c)(3) status in 1985. It now works from 30 acres on the Florida Greenway and Trails at 6850 SE 41st Court, in a facility built in 2008 with Community Development Block Grant funds that holds an indoor arena, offices and a classroom. It has been a PATH International Premier Accredited Center since 2002 and serves as a PATH mentoring facility and approved host site for therapeutic riding instructor workshops and certification. Classes run five days a week, nine months a year, in four eight-week sessions covering therapeutic riding, dressage, games on horseback, trail courses, equine assisted mental health and learning, and Special Olympics. More than 120 clients from five counties and over 100 active volunteers take part annually, and sessions are held for riders with multiple sclerosis.
