About Our Equine Operations
Virginia’s original therapeutic riding pilot program, set up in 1974 by 4-H leader Barbara Baird and journalist Leonard Warner through the Loudoun County Agricultural Extension Service, is now a PATH International Premier Accredited Center and one of two such centers in Loudoun County. Fifteen horses and ponies carry the programming: adaptive riding, carriage driving for people who cannot or prefer not to ride astride, PATH International Equine Services for Heroes for veterans, Silver Spurs sessions run with the Leesburg Senior Center and assisted living communities, and a six-week groundwork course called Horse Powered Learning. Fees are session-based over 8, 10 or 12 weeks year-round. The 501(c)(3) carries tax ID 23-7390594 and partners with Loudoun County Public Schools and Shenandoah University’s occupational therapy division.
