About Our Equine Operations
The Humane Organization Representing Suffering Equines has taken in abused and neglected horses since 1981, moving to its permanent site on Wilbur Road in Washington in 1995 and saving more than 700 lives in that time. The 501(c)(3) rehabilitates each horse physically and mentally before seeking an adoptive home, placing only within Connecticut, eastern New York, western Rhode Island and western Massachusetts. Adopters sign a contract barring breeding or resale, must provide 24-hour turnout, and may not show, jump or use the horse in lesson programmes. A leasing programme runs alongside adoption. New and used tack is sold from the farm as a fundraiser, recently including dressage and close contact saddles, turnout blankets from $15 and ladies’ dress boots at $50.
