About Our Equine Operations
Opened in the 1970s as J-Bar Ranch, where Jack and Barbara Thompson bred Quarter Horses, the property at 11270 Dominica Avenue spent 2003 to 2009 as The Horse House before Phil and Lyles Perkins renamed it Courtship Ranch and rebuilt its electrical, drainage, barns, turnouts and arenas. Riders work in a covered arena measuring 100 by 200 feet, a triangular uncovered arena next to it, a 100-foot round arena and a 50 by 70 oval. Housing spans 14 by 18 boxes in one barn, 12 by 24 boxes and half-covered stalls across shed rows and pipe barns, and pasture board, with eight tack rooms and five wash areas. Seven trainers listed on the site teach classical and western dressage, working equitation, saddle seat, driving, natural horsemanship and trail riding. A 200-year-old California fig tree stands on what the ranch says was a Wells Fargo mail route.
