About Our Equine Operations
Castle Rock Civitan member Joseph Howard founded Colorado HorsePower in 1984 to serve elementary school children through equine-assisted programming, and the nonprofit now operates from Meadowbrook Farm on Garton Road, where it has shifted its focus toward veterans, active-duty military, first responders and their families, and elderly participants. The organisation holds Center Member status with PATH International, became a Provider Approved Service Agency in autumn 2015, and employs PATH-certified instructors across its 100-acre property. Sessions progress from basic barn safety and ground handling to lunging, riding and trail experiences, offered as group lessons of two to four riders or one-to-one private instruction, with an emphasis on emotional regulation learned by observing horses’ responses to human cues. Services are provided free of charge to qualifying participants.
