About Our Equine Operations
Dr. Ruth Altman, DVM, founded Cito’s Rescue in Loveland after adopting Cito, a six-year-old Andalusian who had been rehomed several times; she closed her Fort Collins veterinary practice in late 2022 and incorporated the rescue as a nonprofit that same year. The organisation is now Altman’s full-time work as executive director, taking in horses facing slaughter, neglect or abandonment for quarantine, medical treatment and rehabilitation using natural horsemanship methods before matching them with adoptive homes. Horses that cannot be rehomed remain at the rescue’s sanctuary for permanent care. Its website lists adoptable horses alongside sanctuary residents and memorial tributes to horses that have died in its care. Cito’s Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) relying on donations, volunteer labour and merchandise sales, and takes adoption applications through its website.
