About Our Equine Operations
Operating since 1992 and at its Roanoke site since 2013, having started out in Keller, this nonprofit centre runs two distinct strands of work. Adaptive riding uses mounted and unmounted horsemanship for clients with physical, mental, cognitive, social or behavioural challenges, taught by PATH Intl certified instructors. Separately, physical therapy incorporating hippotherapy uses the variable rhythmic and repetitive movement of the horse to stimulate healthy pelvis movement in humans, administered by what the site calls its licensed therapists; Michelle Haak is named as physical therapist. Steve Heckaman is chief executive and Mandy Cleveland programme director. Riders are drawn from across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, and prospective riders submit a Therapy Rider Packet.
