About Our Equine Operations
Cherokee Feed & Seed’s Ball Ground store, on Hightower Road, opened in February 2004 as the founding location of a small north Georgia chain built by Alan Jessie, who entered the feed and seed trade in 1998 after founding J&J Hay Farms in 1990 and supplying equine hay to clients including the Budweiser Clydesdales and Auburn University’s equine veterinary school. The Ball Ground location, the only one of the company’s three stores in Cherokee County, stocks horse feed, hay, stall shavings and bedding, and horse tack and equine accessories, along with health products such as fly predators. Staff receive ongoing training in nutrition, pasture management and equine health topics as part of the company’s approach to pairing product selection with practical know-how.
