About Our Equine Operations
Inside the Somis hospital, two intensive care stalls are heated and air-conditioned for neonatal patients, with viewing windows into the technician treatment room and an overhead hoist in a separate stall for horses that cannot stand. Surgery runs through two padded induction and recovery rooms, with laparoscopy and laser surgery available and a client viewing room and lounge off the suite. Radiographs come from a 1000mA machine. One of its surgeons joined in 1993 and was board certified in large animal surgery in 1994; an internal medicine diplomate joined in 1999 and boarded in 2000. Dr. Sullivan and Dr. Kemper make field calls, and ambulatory work covers preventative medicine, routine and motorized dentistry, reproduction, microchipping and emergencies.
