About Our Equine Operations
Lessons run by appointment only at Oak Wood, 650 Burnham Rd in Ojai, where Ruby Doss teaches riders from age three to adult on school horses she picks for them. Her riding school climbs four named levels, Greenhorns on safe handling and saddling, Riders on trot work and ground poles, Equestrians on off-property riding and Stewards on advanced obstacles, sold as Entry, Developing, Performance or a non-riding Horsemanship membership. Doss competed in dressage, western horsemanship, reining and cutting before concentrating on difficult horses, and puts more than ten years behind the horse stewardship approach she teaches, which she describes as refusing one-size-fits-all methods and punitive handling. Horses also come in on three-month minimum training packages built on her GRACE model.
