About Our Equine Operations
The lit sign and equine mural out front are, by the store’s own account, a landmark to drivers on the 101. The shop opened in 1968, Vern Benfer bought it in 1973, and his daughter Julie Benfer owns and runs it now, making it one of the oldest retail businesses still operating in Calabasas. Doors open 10 to 5 Monday through Saturday and 11 to 4 on Sunday. Stock covers saddles and tack, grooming and stable supplies, boots, helmets and apparel, horse care products, pet items and gifts, with Tucker Tweed, Criniere, Euphoric Equestrian, Mary Frances and Breyer among the labels. Swap meets run 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with selling spots reserved by phone and sellers bringing their own tables and shade.
