About Our Equine Operations
Hunkapi grew out of an Arizona State University research program in the late 1990s and works ten acres at 12051 N 96th St, what remains of an original 40-acre ranch. Seventeen horses are in service, several of them pulled from Texas kill pens, including Blue Duck, Samson, Tessa and Angus, alongside Jimmy, a Dutch Warmblood foaled in 1997 who came from the Netherlands as a former Olympic mount, plus two donkeys, 24 hens, a cow and pigs. PATH-certified instructors and licensed therapists deliver therapeutic riding, equine assisted psychotherapy, counseling, camps, first responder and addiction recovery programming under EIN 26-3902877; clients stay three to six months on average. Mercy Care, Molina, Health Choice and Banner University plans are accepted with a behavioral case manager referral. Ordinary riding lessons are not offered.
